DPPA is mandated to advance UN efforts in conflict prevention and peacebuilding globally.

The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) leads the UN’s efforts in preventive diplomacy, mediation, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding. DPPA supports the Secretary-General’s peace initiatives, oversees mediation, political transition and peacebuilding processes, and assists Member States with electoral processes. It also supports special political missions, provides early warning and political analysis, and works with regional partners to address political crises and sustain peace.

The Security Council meets top of the hour in New York to debate stalled progress in Gaza as the fragile ceasefire limps on, and deteriorating conditions across the West Bank amid continued civilian casualties and mounting humanitarian needs. UN envoy Ramiz Alakbarov is due to brief alongside the US-led Board of Peace representative to Gaza Nickolay Mladenov. Discussions are likely to focus on who governs Gaza and how with no disarmament in sight, together with efforts to support recovery.
